When The rising Mercury levels are making us humans so uncomfortable, imagine what they could be doing to our pets. They  too are susceptible to heat strokes, dehydration, respiratory and tick-borne diseases.  So, it is important to take special care of your furry friend as the heat turns up. Here are some safety tips that can help responsible dog owners — Prevention from heat stroke
“Do not leave your dog in the car when you go out. Leaving the dog locked in the car can increase the chances of heat stroke,” says Dr Josan, who runs a private vet clinic. Make him drink lots of water as it is necessary for dogs to stay hydrated. Avoid taking them on walks during noon. Take them out during early mornings and very late evenings.

Preventing skin and hair problems Dogs are bound to get skin problems in this season. “Tick-borne diseases, severe itching, lice infestation are common during summers and for this problem, the best product is Spot on, which is better than tick collars,” says Dr Rahul, also a vet. One must also not forget to brush their dogs daily as casual approach will lead to diseases like dermatitis, fleas and the likes.

Prevention from respiratory illness Breeds like pugs, bull dogs and boxers suffer the most from respiratory problems. It is important for their owners to make sure that they are not left in dusty surroundings. Regular check-ups are necessary.

“Dogs tend to have more body heat. Curd and yoghurt-based products should be given to pets as they are cold,” says Akanksha Thakur a pet owner. 

She further adds, “I bathe my dog frequently to keep him cool and active.”
