Suicide abetment case: HC notice to DU college principal

The Delhi High court on Thursday issued notices to the city police and the accused principal of a Delhi University college on a plea seeking cancellation of the bail granted to him in a case of alleged abetment to suicide by a woman who was employed with the institution.

Justice Sudershan Kumar Misra sought a reply from GK Arora, Principal of Bhim Rao Ambedkar College of Delhi University, and fixed the plea of the deceased’s husband for further hearing on 5 February, 2015, the next date of hearing.

Advocate RK Anand, appearing for the victim’s husband, sought cancellation of the bail by citing an earlier order of the lower court observing that it could not have granted the relief to the principal had the entire facts of the case been before it. The suicide note of the victim, which was given to the husband on Thursday, has categorically alleged that the principal had forced her to commit suicide, the lawyer said.

In the suicide note, written on 30 September last year, she had alleged that the principal and co-accused ‘tortured and forced’ her to commit suicide as they wanted to establish physical relations with her.

The trial court, which granted regular bail to Arora last month, however, had denied the relief to co-accused Ravinder Singh who since now moved the High Court.
