‘Sudden weight gain on brink of adulthood means obesity’

If you are in the last year of your teenage and gaining weight, you need to visit a doctor for <g data-gr-id="16">check-up</g> as you might be suffering from obesity, a lifestyle based non-communicable disease. According to IMA, any weight gain after the age of 18 years in females and 20 years in males is obesity unless proved otherwise. <g data-gr-id="15">Also</g> the apex body of doctors said that any weight gain after the age of 35 years and after the age of 50 years is considered obesity.
Notably, India is under siege as junk food, alcohol and sedentary lifestyle are leading us to silent self-destruction, making one in every five Indian men and women either obese or overweight. According to reports published in medical journal, India, where 270 million people live below the ‘poverty line’, is just behind US and China in this global life taking disease list of top 10 countries with highest number of obese people. Taking about the disease, IMA’s secretary general KK Aggarwal said, “Obesity is a disease and should be tackled under the supervision of doctors. It can be managed either by eating low refined carbohydrates, low fat and or low calories diet, Aggarwal added.
