Sudden provocation behind rise in murder cases: Police

It may be difficult for the national capital to get rid of its crime capital tag! Compared to last year’s data of murder cases till June 2013, the number of cases has increased in 2014. The main reason being attributed by the police to this is sudden provocation and trivial issues. This shows how the temperament of people has changed as a whole, leading to frequent fights and outbursts to vent out anger and vengeance.

The data accessed by Millennium Post reveals that in 2013, the number of murder cases reported to police till 30 June were 219 whereas this year the number of cases have increased to 277 till 30 June.
In 2014, from January to June, the number of murder cases have increased by more than half of cases reported previous year. In 2013, the total number of murder cases reported were 487 whereas upto June this year, the murder cases reported are 277. In 2012, 504 murder took place whereas in 2011, the national capital witnessed 526 murder cases.

Out of the 277 murder cases reported in 2014, Delhi Police managed to work out 207 crime incidents and have arrested 406 persons in connection to these murders across Delhi.
Speaking to Millennium Post, a senior police official alleged that sudden provocation is the main reason giving rise to such heinous activities. ‘Sudden provocation and trival issues are something that is beyond the control of Delhi Police,’ he added.

‘The easy availability of firearms and sharp-edged weapons makes it easier for people to turn a criminal and execute their plans to murder someone within a short span of time,’ he further added.
In 2013, around 20.74% of the murder took place due to sudden provocation or trival issues. However, because of old enmity 16.02% murder took place. 10.27% cases were due to family dispute while 11.70% murder took place for property disputes. Surprisingly, only 8.42% cases were crime related murder.
