State Congress chief Kishore Upadhyay on Monday said the CD scandal had exposed the “chameleon-like character” of the BJP before the citizens.
“Initially, state unit BJP leaders had claimed that the original CD was submitted to Governor, while their national vice-president Shyam Jaju on Sunday said that the CD and instruments used for the sting operation are in the party’s possession. These are contradictory statements and it is difficult to judge who is concealing the truth,” he said.
Upadhyay added: “The Apex Court has ordered that only journalists can carry sting operation, which can be telecast. The Congress government in the state has directed bureaucrats to behave in a dignified way. The party will not tolerate corruption. Then, why is the BJP going on a back-foot and is dilly-dallying in submitting the original CD for <g data-gr-id="26">forensic</g> probe? If the BJP does not clear its stand on this issue, the state Congress Committee will be forced to take legal action against BJP.”
He accused the BJP of dramatising the CD episode. “The public is aware of the rampant corruption in the BJP,” Upadhyay said. Without naming the late Bangaru Laxman, he said: “A former BJP president was seen accepting bribe on news channels. Besides, Karnataka former BJP CM BS Yeddyurappa is involved in multiple corruption cases.”
The PM and his Cabinet colleagues are tight-lipped on multiple scams in BJP-ruled states, he said.
