Students protest against alleged discrimination at Amity

Suspension of nine and detention of 150 students in Amity University’s Gurgaon campus has led to protests from the university’s students.
Rahul Rao, president of state youth Congress committee, said: ‘More than nine students of Amity University in Manesar have been allegedly detained by the college administration for failing to meet the attendance requirements.

This reeks of favouritism as despite having 70 per cent attendance some students have been suspended whereas those who have only 45 per cent have been allowed to sit for the examinations.’

Rao added, ‘Noida and Manesar, both branches of Amity University have different norms for students. The university is taking donation of 15 to 20 lakh in the name of fees and playing with the lives of innocent students.’
Rao claimed that the university has opted for favouritism over providing students with a level playing field. ‘The institution has detained 150 students by saying that they have scored low marks in examinations,’ Rao added.

Vice-president of corporate communication Amity University Savita Mehta.‘
Savita Mehta, vice-president corporate communication, however, denied the allegations. She said the university has not discriminated against students. ‘We have allowed students to give examination even if they scored less marks,’ she said.
Mehta further added: ‘We have passed students even with 3.5 CGPA. this is professional course, no university like DU, JNU, JMI and IIT allowed their students to go against the norms of the varsity.’
