A large number of government school students, their parents and supporters protested against the high cut-offs for admission in Delhi University undergraduate programmes on Thursday.
Shouting slogans, the students and their parents burnt an effigy of HRD minister Pallam Raju as a mark of their protest against the university system, which, they alleged, is geared to cater solely to students from affluent sections of the society who attend expensive private schools.
The protesters alleged that though it was a peaceful agitation, ‘Delhi police officials picked up one of the activists and slapped non-bailable charges against him.’ The protesters then proceeded toward Maurice Nagar Thana, where the arrested protestor was being held and raised slogans against Delhi police'.
