Student thrashed for protesting against misbehaviour towards girls

An engineering student was beaten up for protesting against putting colours on two girls when they were taking bath in a pond at Jagatdal in North 24-Parganas on Wednesday.

Police said that the victim Joydip Biswas is a student of government engineering college in Behrampore and he came home for Holi.

The two girls are Madhyamik examinees. They told the police that around 10 youth from the adjacent Aampara area approached them when they were taking bath in a pond. All of them were in inebriated state. They forcefully put colour on the girls, turning down their repeated requests of not misbehaving with them. The accused even forced the girls to take a dip in the water after putting colours on them.

The girls, somehow, managed to escape while the youth started taking bath in the pond.

The duo found Biswas while running back home and narrated the entire incident to him. Biswas, who was all alone, went to the pond and asked the youth the reason behind misbehaving the girls. It led to an altercation and the accused started beating him up.  They kicked him in stomach and some of the accused beat him up with logs.

The victim’s parents and neighbours ran to the spot as the girls told them that Biswas went alone to face the youth. Finding people approaching the spot, the accused fled the area.
