A first year MBA student allegedly committed suicide here after she was expelled on being caught cheating during exams and police today lodged an FIR against the college management.
Dana Sangma, who hails from the northeast, was caught cheating from her mobile phone during the examination yesterday by the invigilator and was expelled from the hall, they said.
Unable to bear the humiliation, Sangma committed suicide by hanging herself in her hostel room yesterday, they said.
Following complaints by the victim's relatives, police lodged the FIR against management of Amity College for abetment to suicide, they said, adding, no arrest has been made so far.
One of the directors of the college, who did not wish to be named, said, "In our campus, mobile phone is forbidden from being taken into classroom, so naturally it is also forbidden from the exam hall."
"Yesterday while the girl Dana Sangma was taking her exam, she was seen by the invigilator using her mobile phone.
Whether she was speaking to somebody for taking help for the exam, it does not matter," the director said.
"She was expelled because she was seen using her mobile phone during exam. When she was pulled up, she admitted that she knew the rule which forbade students from getting mobile phones on campus," he said.
