Streetlights: SDMC, EDMC ask stakeholders to pull up socks

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) have pulled up its socks to make the entire area under their jurisdiction well-lit very soon. The Corporations have decided to intensify their efforts to replace all its conventional streetlights, high mast lights and faulty streetlights with LED based energy efficient streetlights. The stakeholders have been asked to identify the dark patches, unreached parts of the colonies and faulty streetlights ie conventional ones and the LEDs to enable the Corporation to install the LED lights at the earliest.
In a meeting chaired by SDMC Mayor Subhash Arya which was attended by the Chief Engineer (Electric) and representatives of BSES and the Energy Efficient Services Ltd Arya exhorted all the stakeholders to involve themselves in converting the SDMC area into a fully well-lit one with the new age LED lights keeping in view the need of making the SDMC localities the first in the country to advance in the direction of modernising the streetlight system. “With coordinated efforts the SDMC would be able to replace the rest of 48,000 streetlights very soon. It is expected that the total number of LED lights installed may go up from 1.98 lakhs to over 2.05 lakhs with the installation of lights in the parks and religious places,” said the SDMC.
Meanwhile, the EDMC, during its Standing Committee meeting on Thursday, informed to initiate process of replacing 99,000 streetlights and 2,700 high mast lights by end of this month.
