Streetlight pole falls from flyover, Metro services hit

Delhi Metro services between Janakpuri East and Subhash Nagar stations  got delayed by more than two hours on Tuesday due to the overhead electric (OHE) damage.  Although the service was later normalised, Metro commuters had a harrowing time.

The incident occurred when a street light pole fell from a flyover to the <g data-gr-id="23">down line</g> due to the dust storm that took place on Tuesday evening.

According to a Metro official, they had to resort to single-track commutation between Janakpuri East and Subhash Nagar Metro stations in the wake of overhead electric (OHE) line damage.

“Services on Line-3 were delayed due to OHE line damage between Janakpuri East and West stations, caused by falling off a streetlight from a flyover adjacent to the viaduct on <g data-gr-id="30">down line</g> at 4.43 pm,” said an official of Delhi Metro.

“Single line operations between Janakpuri West and Subhash Nagar stations were undertaken for immediate repair work. Services were normalised at around 6.45 pm,” added the Metro official.

The incident caused problems for the commuters as they remained stranded at various junctions on the Blue Line. “I was stuck at Dwarka Sector-8 Metro station for nearly 40 minutes,” said Rohit Sharma, a regular Metro commuter. Delhi and the National Capital Region had experienced light rain and dust storms on Tuesday afternoon.
