Stolen jewellery worth Rs 1.5 cr recovered within 24 hours

On Saturday evening, Rs 1.5 crore worth of jewellery and cash were stolen from an employee working at a shop in Karol Bagh. The items were stolen by unidentified armed assailants in outer Delhi. However within twenty four hours, Delhi police have recovered the stolen valuables. However, the accused narrowly managed to escape.Â
According to police, the incident took place on Saturday evening when an employee was returning from Punjab. Along with the jewellery, the bag contained cash as well. ‘The total valuables including the cash were worth Rs 1.5 crore,’ a police official said.Â
When he reached National Highway- 1 near Khampur Village in Alipur area of outer District, a car overtook him. The victim told police that two persons were present inside the car and they parked the vehicle in front of his car. ‘Driving his vehicle at a reasonably fast speed, the victim had to suddenly apply brakes. As a result his car dashed into the accused’s car’, a police official said, quoting victim’s statement.
Meanwhile, two persons in their late twenties got down from the car with a baseball bat and wooden stick in their hands. They ordered the victim to get down from the car. After the victim got out of the car, the assailants ordered him to hand over the bag containing jewellery and cash. After stealing the victim’s items, the assailants thrashed him with the bat and stick.
The victim told police that they also snatched his mobile phone and one of the accused drove off in his car and the other fled away in his Sonata. Somehow, the victim managed to call to the police control room, who reached the crime scene within a short span of time.Â
When the registration number of Nissan car was flashed across all pickets, Delhi police was informed that a car bearing the same number plate was found parked at an isolated place in Alipur. The robbed victim however could not note down the number of the vehicle used in the crime scene.Â
‘A team reached the place where the car was parked and found that the accused have managed to escape with the valuables. A man-hunt was started and the snatched mobile phone was kept on surveillance to track down their location. Finding suitable inputs, on Sunday afternoon a raid was conducted in Narela area where they spotted the vehicle and noticed that the duo accused were sitting inside,’ a police official said.Â
When few teams approached the car from all directions, the accused somehow narrowly escaped the police. ‘In a bid to avert apprehension by the police, they left the valuables. It was later handed-over to Sunder Gupta, owner of jewellery shop,’ Sanjay Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (outer) said.  A case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code including robbery, attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy have been registered at Alipur police station against unknown persons. So far around 30 persons have been questioned.Â
