Stir ends but Gurgaon remains partially shut

Even as the Gurgaon administration informed on Sunday night that the Jat agitation was called off in Gurgaon, both government and private schools remained shut on Monday morning. Administrations of private and pre schools informed parents that the schools will remain shut on Monday. Meanwhile, the Gurgaon administration advised all women to stay indoors.

As the workers of most industrial plants in Gurgaon and Manesar did not turn up on Monday as well, the plants witnessed loss in production. This was mainly because some protestors in a few pockets of the Millennium City decided not to withdraw the agitation until the entire community in the state takes a stand on the decision.

In a drastic shift of events, production at the Maruti Suzuki plant in Manesar and Gurgaon were suspended due to the break in the supply chain of certain components on Monday. Even when Maruti is trying to work on a solution to restart the production, it comes as a challenge as the major state highways are still blocked by agitators across the state. Meanwhile, the Central Teacher Eligibility Test was also postponed in Haryana on Sunday due to the on-going Jat stir that has crippled the state.

To add on to the woes of commuters, all trains on the Delhi-Jaipur route via Gurgaon were cancelled as the city was cut off from the rail network till 12 pm on Monday. The district administration had also cancelled leaves of doctors and support staff of the state-run civil hospital in Gurgaon in order to be prepared for any emergency. The district administration has also issued an advisory saying that no road will be blocked in the city and RAF will be deployed to maintain normalcy yet all government schools and colleges of Gurgaon have been asked to remain shut on Tuesday. “Since most of the private schools are largely in New Gurgaon, having bus services for the students, these schools could function,” said T L Satyaprakash, Deputy Commissioner, Gurgaon.
