Goutam Deb, the state tourism minister, said that in a bid to attract tourists from outside the state, there will be arrangements for a river safari.
Tourists will be taken to different, well known and award winning Puja Mandaps. At the same time, there will be arrangements for the tourists to hop from one pandal to another in government buses. Deb on Friday inaugurated the Tourism Fair at Netaji Indoor Stadium.
Every year, thousands of people from different parts of the country and abroad, visit the city during Durga Puja. Being unaware, they seek help of the local people to get information about the pandals which are worth visiting. But with the initiative taken by the state tourism department, the tourists will not have to face any inconvenience in taking a tour of the city even during Durga Puja.
The tourists will be enjoying Bengali food, while availing the river safari during the Puja. The tourism department has taken steps to make people aware about the facility that they are providing during the Puja.
For the first time, the idols will be passing through Red Road during immersion. Makeshift galleries will be set up on both sides of Red Road to make space for people to watch the idols passing through the area during immersion. This will be the most attractive part of the Puja for those who will come from outside the state. It will give them an opportunity to get glimpse of all the idols of Goddess Durga when they will pass through Red Road.
It will give a boost to the tourism sector of the state as many luxury hotels are coming up in the areas where the state government is developing infrastructure to attract more tourists.
The tourism department is also taking steps to give a makeover to the 150 km coastline of the state. Around Rs 83 crore will be invested to develop the infrastructure along the coastline. It includes setting up of separate toilets from men and women.
The investment will also be made to increase activities on the beach. With the implementation of the project the coastline of the state will get a facelift and at many places it will turn to tourist spots.
