State Khadi panel director, wife get 2-year RI

A CBI court on Tuesday sentenced the state director of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and his wife to two years and <g data-gr-id="15">one year</g> rigorous imprisonment respectively in a disproportionate assets case.
“KVIC state director G Venkatanarayana and his wife <g data-gr-id="16">Venkateswari</g> Devi were sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of two years and one year respectively for acquiring disproportionate assets valued at Rs 47.01 lakh,” CBI said in a release.
The KVIC is a statutory body established under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
The Anti-Corruption branch of the agency investigated a case against Venkatanarayana during December 1989 to April 2002.
It is alleged that he acquired assets in his name and in the name of his wife against his sources of income of Rs 32.88 lakh, it said.
