Delhi Government has taken an initiative to curb rampant corruption in the Public Distribution System(PDS). Ration card numbers and UID (Unique Identification) numbers of customers will be punched into an 'e-point of sale' machine.
The secretary-cum-commissioner of food and civil supplies, SS Yadav on Monday said that the government has planned end-to-end computerization of Targeted Public Distribution System(TPDS) to make its reach more effective and easy for the approximately 16 lakh cardholders.
'This plan consists of digitisation of rations cards, beneficiary and other databases, computerisation of supply-chain management, setting up of transparency portal and grievance redressal mechanisms. A helpline for cardholders will be started soon.’
Yadav said four cameras will be installed in all 70 PDS circles to monitor ration office employees. ‘If any PDS officer is found to be not serving the consumer, immediate action will be taken against him,’ he said.
A computerised database of ration card holders will also be created.
A biometric automated system will enable 'last mile tracking, which allows the government to check whether grain has reached the beneficiaries,' Yadav said.
