STAR India CEO will head Ficci M&E panel

STAR India CEO Uday Shankar has been appointed chairman of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry's (Ficci) Media & Entertainment (M&E) Committee which reviews, recommends and shapes policy framework. The position was previously held by filmmaker Yash Chopra and had remained vacant after his death in October.

Shankar has so far steered Ficci’s Broadcast Forum, where as Chairman he engaged with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) and Information and Broadcasting Ministry to achieve digitisation. Multi Screen Media CEO Man Jit Singh will replace Shankar as Broadcast Forum Chairman.

In his new role, Shankar will be supported by renowned filmmakers Ramesh Sippy and Karan Johar as co-chairs of the committee.

Ficci said that it looks for Shankar's vision, rich and varied experience and deft leadership to take the formidable Indian media and entertainment industry to new heights.

'We would work with all industry stakeholders closely to formulate an agenda for sustained growth of the burgeoning entertainment sector and hold regular and meaningful dialogues with policy makers,' said Shankar after taking over as chairman of the Ficci M&E committee.

The panel represents stakeholders in the media and entertainment industry at several crucial forums and works closely with the government on behalf of the industry.
