SSP suspended for ‘assaulting’ orderlies in UP

The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday suspended Moradabad SSP Rajesh Modak for allegedly beating up three policemen, including two posted at his residence on Saturday.

The incident took place when Samajwadi Party leader HT Hasan, who also happens to be party candidate from Moradabad, visited the SSP’s residence and was asked to wait by latter’s staff.

The harassed policemen had complained about the incident to the deputy inspector general (DIG) who later initiated action.

DIG, Moradabad, Amrendra Kumar Sengar said the three policemen had given him a written complaint on Saturday that Modak had thrashed them unnecessarily. ‘Guman Singh, Sunder Singh and Daya Kishan gave me a written complaint,’ Sengar said.

Home department officials said that Modak has been suspended for misbehaviour. Earlier, UP BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak said the act shows the frustration and pressure under which policemen are working in UP.  Meanwhile, senior IPS officer Amitabh Thakur has sent a letter to the DGP and Principal Secretary Home for registration of an FIR against the SSP and also demanded a departmental enquiry. ‘It is inhuman to beat subordinates. I talked to Sundar and Gumaan Singh over phone. Sundar told me he was threatened later by the SSP’s wife,’ Thakur said in a statement here on Sunday.
