The water supply could be restored only after four hours following the intervention of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
The members of BKU allowed release of water to the Capital and adjoining regions after assurance by the UP government to discuss the matter of setting up a memorial for late prime minister Chowdhary Charan Singh with the Centre.
Anticipating a crisis in ensuring uninterrupted water in south and north east Delhi, the Delhi Jal Board issued warning that water could be in short supply as once supply from canal get disrupted it takes time to make operations normal.
The BKU had launched agitation to protest against eviction notice issued to Rashtriya Lokdal Leader (RLD) Ajit Singh by New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). Ever since eviction notice was served on Ajit Singh, the BKU has been demanding that the Tughlaq road bunglow, where Ajit Singh resides, should be declared Charan Singh Memorial Centre like other government bungalows declared into memorials for Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Kanshi Ram and Jagjivan Ram.
The claim that cutting water and power supply to the bungalow about one week ago was ‘humiliation’ to the memory of late leader.
It is another matter in the past three decades Ajit Singh, who has been several times part of the union government, never put forth any such demand and continued to occupy the bungalow for personal use.
