Spring fling

Spring in Delhi, by the feel of it, will take its own time to arrive. Till then we have the India Art Fair (on till 2 February) at NSIC grounds. A must visit for the art lovers so make sure you head over. They have some incredible art walks scheduled as well.

However what we are actually looking forward to is the New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF). And this year adding to the general excitement of great books, Gulzar and Irrfan Khan have joined hands with the National Book Trust (NBT). ‘Books are integral part of upbringing of any intense and sensitive human being.  Anyone’s personality is defined by the kind of books one read. So I thought, it would be best to be part of this initiative,’ says Khan.

The 22nd NDWBF will be held from 15 to 23 February in collaboration with India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The fair will be inaugurated by the President Pranab Mukherjee. During the fair, nearly 1700 stalls will be setup where hundreds of publishers will display their publications. The Guest of Honour Country for NDBWF 2014 is Poland.

And now to not-so-serious matters. The Wine Company (TWC) in Cyber Hub, Gurgaon, recently hosted a wine tasting in association with Fratelli Wines. The man of the moment - Alessio Secci, Co-promoter and Director of Fratelli Wines was present at the event and got talking to us about what plans Fratelli has for the Indian market.

While he pointed out that the market for wine has been increasing exponentially over the years, the Indian consumers are still hesitant about consuming wine while dining out because they lose out when it comes to pricing. Fratelli’s main aim is to make good, quality and classy wine available to the people in good prices. Secci pointed out that it was indeed a little difficult to pick wines that went well with the Indian palette but it wasn’t impossible and he says that Fratelli has some great wines that go well with the spices we love.

The wine tasting at TWC however was paired with a European spread as we tried the Gran Cuvee Brut, the Chenin Blanc, the Sangiovese Bianco, the Sangiovese, the Sette 2010 and the absolute star if the evening, Fratelli’s new dessert wine - Santo. Santo will however not be available in the market like the rest of the wines. It breaks our heart to say that the delicious Santo will be available only on special order.

TWC , take it from us, is a must visit place at the Cyber Hub. This wine bistro is a wine shop and a restaurant all rolled up in one. Guests can pick from a wide array of wines and liquors available at the venue. They can buy and leave or they can buy and pair it up with some great food right at the venue. And the prices on offer are wholesale prices! Win win!

And in another story, WelcomHotel Sheraton recently hosted the Dawat-e-Kebab at Baywatch.
The incredible spread that included the Reshmi Kebab, Tandoori Chicken, Bhatti da murgh, Sigri wale Aloo, Galouti kabab, Baqala kabab, Patthar ke kabab, Amritsari macchi, Aloo ke shahi kabab, Choliya Masala, Boti Qorma paired with some great rotis and naans, had us stuffed silly and so pleased on a winter night.

Eggspectaion much!?

Celebrating winters, Eggspectation, the 24-hour resto café at Jaypee Siddharth, introduced its new food segment, the Pan Asian Cuisine Skewers and Grills. A sumptuous treat for Skewer and Grill Connoisseurs.

Pan Asian Skewer & Grills was a culinary delight for food enthusiasts with a wide array of skewered and grilled delicacies served up as sizzlers to please both the Indian and the European taste buds.  From Sizzling Saigon Fish Steak to the Prawn Teriyaki, Curried Lamb Brochettes, Mongolian Vegetable Skewers the festival is a must-visit for all food lovers.

We loved the Five Spice Scented Cottage Cheese Steak and the Thai  Honey Pepper Chicken that came with a delightful serving of rice and coconut sauce on the side.  The fact that the rice and the vegetables were kept aside was brilliant because in most places the sizzler plate gets too cluttered for one to enjoy it.
