Federation Cup: Mohun Bagan claw to 3-2 victory against Lajong; DSK Shivajians stun Bengaluru

Mohun Bagan had to huff and puff at the end but ended up 3-2 winners over a dynamic Shillong Lajong in a Round II fixture of Federation Cup Group B at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.

It was the Reds who had opened the scoring in the third minute of the match itself through a Pritam Kotal own goal but three strikes from Mohun Bagan sealed their fortunes with Darryl Duffy (5'), Sony Norde (27') and Katsumi Yusa (43') on the scoresheet. A late goal from Yuta Kinowaki (80') wasn't enough as Thangboi Singto's side exited the competition.

Shillong Lajong had their key man Aser Dipanda missing due to a knock and Fabio Pena came into the side to lead the line. Meanwhile for Mohun Bagan, Debjit Majumder returned as the No. 1 after serving his suspension as Mohun Bagan continued with Darryl Duffy and Balwant Singh up front.

In the day's other match DSK Shivajians FC rode on a brace by Spanish import Juan Barraso to defeat Bengaluru FC 2-0 in a Group B match of the 38th edition of the Federation Cup football tournament at the Barabati Stadium here on Wednesday. A goal from the penalty spot in the 71st minute followed by a peach of a goal from a free-kick more than 30 yards out in the 76th minute from Juan Barraso led DSK Shivajians to a hard-fought win over the former I-League champions.

DSK Shivajians' win means that three teams out of four find themselves level on points in Group B. DSK Shivajians' South Korean import Kim Song Yong lead their forward line and gave the Bengaluru FC defence a tough time.

With Lallianzuala Chhangte and Juan Barraso on the wings, DSK Shivajians utilised the flanks in the initial minutes, searching for an early goal. In the ninth minute, Lallianzuala connected on a cross from the left flank, but he was flagged offside.
