RCB go green against Kolkata Knight Riders

As part of their 'Go Green' initiative, Royal Challengers Bangalore players are donning green jerseys, instead of regular red colour, in their match against Kolkata Knight Riders at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Since 2011 edition, in one of their home games, RCB wears a special green uniform to spread awareness regarding environment conservation. The 'Go Green' initiative is aimed to create awareness about global warming as well.

According to RCB's official website, sports can be used to good effect to spread messages. Interestingly, according to the official website, the green jerseys for RCB players for IPL 10 are made of recycled PET bottles. "During IPL 9, RCB initiated a Waste-to-Recycled-Kits program where special collection bins were set up in different stands across Chinnaswamy Stadium to collect used plastic bottles from fans in the audience. The bins were set up in the stadium from the match preceding the Green Match. These post-consumer PET bottles were recycled to develop the Green jerseys for RCB players for IPL 10," adds the website.

Not only this, RCB has also initiated a waste management programme at the home venue. RCB's home ground, Chinnaswamy stadium, is also the world's first cricket ground to be solar powered.
