HS Prannoy advances to Swiss Open quarter-finals, Shubhankar loses

India's HS Prannoy kept Indian hopes alive as he emerged victorious after a come-from-behind performance against China's Qiao Bin and advanced to the quarter-finals in men's singles of the Swiss Open on Thursday.

The other Indian in the men's singles, Shubhankar Dey bowed out of the tournament following a straight set defeat to Japanese Kanta Tsuneyama.

5th seed Prannoy put out an inspired display against the 10th seed Qiao to win the game 9-21, 23-21, 21-15.

After losing the first set by a heavy margin, Prannoy brought out his best badminton to edge out the Chinese in the second game.

Thereafter, he vowed the audience in the third game as he took seven consecutive points to beat Qiao.

Shubhankar, on the other hand, could not match up to the Japanese and lost 19-21, 14-21.
