Dominating the game led Mohun Bagan to win: Dicka

New Delhi: Brimming with confidence after his brace against Churchill Brothers in the Hero Super Cup in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, Mohun Bagan's Asier Dipanda Dicka feels when a team dominates a game, chances will come at them to win the match.
"We suffered early but we dominated the game; and in football when you dominate the game, you will have chances to score. That's what happened last night," said the 29-year-old Cameroonian forward over the phone on Monday. "I am happy about the fact that I scored but more than that I am happy that we won."
Mohun Bagan started the game slowly when they went down in the 30th minute after a brilliant solo effort by Churchill's rejuvenated striker Willis Plaza, who scored his third goal of the tournament. Despite keeping lion's share of the possession, the team Mariners looked hapless in front of a water-tight Goan defence. But a late goal in injury time of the first half (after missing a penalty) and a one-touch finish in the 70th minute by Dicka helped Mariners rally to a win.
The former Valencia youth forward said coach Shankarlal Chakraborty's pep talk during the halftime helped them come back stronger.
"Coach asked us to try things differently in the second half. He felt our attack-to-defence transition wasn't up to the mark in the first half. That's why Plaza gave us a hard time. In the second half, he asked us to attack and defend as one unit. That made the difference for us," he shared.
Dicka, who saw the departure of two of his high-profile teammates in Sony Norde and Ansumana Kormah leave the club during the winter transfer window, found a new partner in crime in Lebanese attacking midfielder Akram Moghrabi.
"Having someone like Akram really helps the team as he is a complete attacker. He is a quality player and that allows us to combine well up front. We often help each other score. As you must have seen, he set me up for the winner last night too (Cameron Watson's free-kick was headed by Moghrabi to Dicka, who put it into the net with a left-footed strike)," he said.
The Green and Maroon brigade will next face either Pune City FC or Shillong Lajong, who are all set to face each other on April 4.
