Spicing up the city this weekend

Come this weekend, Delhi will be under the tangy flavour of 3 Spices — a play that will be served fresh on the stage.

Produced by Merry Go Round, the three one-act plays will comprise a blend of drama, comedy and romance in two hours and 15 minutes.

'We have put together three short stories which explore different angles of relationships in a comical manner. More importantly, it is an experiment never done in the theatre fraternity in Delhi. The stories are meant to appeal to every dimension of audience,' said Saurav Padhi, director, 3 Spices.

The three one-act plays which make up 3 Spices are Do Behenen
by Premchand, The Boor by Anton Chekhov and The Bachelors by Tarun Dangwal.

While Do Behenen is a Hindi satire based on the clash of two sisters pursuing their separate lives, The Boor is a well-known classic farce showcasing an interesting turn of comedy and romance between a crude and rude landowner seeking to recover his debt from a young widow.

The Bachelors
is a story based on the premise 'Main Karoon toh Saala character dheela hai' and how bachelorhood is the time everyone aspires to live life fully.

'We have made a special effort to give the stories a realistic spin. In Do Behenen we have retained the language but played around with the script and acting. Likewise in
The Boor,
almost 90 per cent of the story is kept intact while the setting has been experimented with. The Bachelors is completely a home-grown  production which has been conceptualised keeping in mind today's generation and the engaging concept of bachlerhood,' added Saurav.

For a marketing professional, how challenging was it to put all the creative elements together on stage? 'I was always marred by a huge question mark before getting into theatre. But once I started out there has been no looking back. The first nuance of any director is to pick a story which has the scope to get staged. I have taken special care to use particular costumes, looks and sets,' said Saurav.

The play will have staged four times and this time they are all set to enthrall the audience.
