Specially challenged man who had received Kalam pat shot dead

A 27-year-old deaf and dumb man who was felicitated by former president APJ Abdul Kalam for academic achievements was shot dead by unidentified assailants, right in front of his house at North-east Delhi’s Seelampur area on Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Vinod. Police have not yet ascertained the motive behind the murder.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 11 pm on Tuesday night when Vinod was walking outside his house on Gurudwara road between the H and G block where some unidentified men opened fire at him and fled from the spot. Locals found him bleeding profusely and informed his parents who took him to the Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police said that his parents run a grocery store near their house and Vinod used to assist his parents. He had studied up to class 10 and was presented with an award for his outstanding achievement by the former President of India.

Family members and locals took to the streets and blocked the entire stretch of GT road where they placed Vinod’s body which caused massive traffic jams in the neighbouring areas. Locals allegedly raised questions as to who could have killed a physically challenged person. Meanwhile, doctors have carried out the post-mortem and stated that the bullet pierced Vinod’s skull which led to his death.

According to the police, angry locals gathered to stage protest against the murder and blamed the police for the increasing number of crimes in the area. DCP Veenu Bansal was unavailable for comment. A case of murder has been registered at the Seelampur police station under relevant section of the IPC against unidentified accused persons.
