Special Cell releases 4 JeM suspects over ‘lack of clinching evidence’

Since there was no clinching evidence against the four suspects rounded up by the cops from Delhi-NCR, they have been released yet cops will monitors their movements.

On May 3, Special Cell had arrested three persons identified as Sajid, a 19-year-old tailor residing at Chand Bagh, while Sameer Ahmed and Shakeer Ansari were arrested with the help of the Anti-Terror Squad of Uttar Pradesh Police for their alleged involvement with JeM members and storing IED explosives, police said.

According to the police, out of the ten suspects who have been subjected to extensive interrogation, four suspects have been released on account of lack of clinching evidence against them. Senior officers of the Special Cell said that post release, de-radicalisation workshops and programmes will be conducted in order to provide counselling sessions to these four suspects.

“In association with NGO’s working with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), who will provide psychological assistance to the suspects, religious and social counsellors too will come forward to assist the police,” said the senior officers.

“As part of the de-radicalisation workshops, we seek assistance from speakers, psychiatrists and psychologists. Under the part where religious counselling will be provided, we will seek help from clerics and also from the neighbours of theses suspects who will come forward and make them understand that it is against the religion to kill anyone,” added the officer.

Meanwhile, the police officers said that they will continue to monitor the activities of the suspects who have been released.

Special Cell, who had been maintaining surveillance on the three arrested, raided Chand Bagh in Delhi when Sajid, considered to be the most-radicalised out of all the arrested and detained suffered burn injuries in his left hand while making improvised explosive device.
