Special Cell detains terror suspect from Roorkee

Sleuths of the Special Cell of Delhi Police have reportedly detained another terror suspect from Roorkee in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday after interrogating the four terror suspects who were arrested on January 19.

Earlier in the week, Special Cell had arrested four youth from Uttarakhand who were suspected of planning an attack at the Ardh Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. Meanwhile, they have been sent to a 15-day police custody.

According to the police official of the anti-terror unit, these four youth were suspected of being in touch with IS handlers who were helping them to plan an attack at Ardh Kumbh Mela and in Haridwar-bound trains. These suspects have been identified as Akhlaq, Osama, Mohd Azim and Mohd Mahroz.

Police said that Akhlaq was also interrogated in light of the terror attack on the Pathankot Air Force base in Punjab, which took place on 2 January.

As part of a crackdown on terror groups, extensive raids were carried out simultaneously in five states of Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh where 14 people were “arrested or detained”. They were part of a group named ‘Janood-ul-Khalifa-e-Hind’ (Army of Caliph of India), a terror group which has almost similar ideologies that of ISIS.

Five of the 14 arrests were made by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
