Special arrangements made to save people from drowning during immersion

They also informed that the water level of Yamuna is comparatively low this year. Delhi Police gives permission for such religious gatherings at Yamuna ghats which includes riverside rituals while the traffic department manages the traffic movement in and around the river bank. There are four ghats in the city that includes Ram Ghat, Kudesai Ghat, Geeta Ghat and Kalindi Kunj Ghat.
With the immersion of hundreds of idols of Goddess Durga into the already polluted Yamuna after Durga Puja, a special drive is planned by the civic authorities to clean up large quantity of insoluble waste like wood, plastics, and toxic material from the river.
‘Special arrangements have been made owing to Swachh Bharat Mission,to keep Yamuna River clean and free from pollution’ an official said.
The revenue department, which has no role in idol immersion ceremonies has provided logistics like life boats and professional divers to save people from drowning. ‘Wooden barricades have been erected by the district administration at a safe distance within 03 metres inside the Yamuna river bank to prevent devotees from drowning. Devotees will not be allowed to go beyond the point’ the official in the revenue department said.
Heavy police deployment has also been made to avoid stampede and any other untoward incident during such gathering. ‘But the devotees have to be cooperative too and need to listen and follow the instructions announced’, requested a police officer on duty.
