Samajwadi Party (SP), which extends crucial external support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), skipped the dinner hosted by the prime minister to celebrate the four years of UPA-II, though Satish Mishra and Brajesh Pathak of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) did attend the dinner.
The decision to skip the dinner is seen because of the declining graph of the government in recent times where it had been mirred in corruption. ‘ The four years of UPA government has given us pessimism and there has been no development from the government,’ said SP leader Naresh Aggarwal. Though SP has been trying to distance itself from this government, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had in fact shared the dais during the dinner held last year.
In fact this is the first time that SP has skipped the dinner in the last four years. SP leaders say that with elections due next year, the party does not want to be seen close to the government, which has seen its stock dip sharply. The SP though has bailed out the government various times it now does not want to been seen on the side of the UPA.
