SP leader, his gunner shot dead in marriage ceremony

In a broad day incident of killing, a Samajwadi Party leader and Village Head (Gram Pradhan) and his gunner were killed while two others were injured in Surajpur area of Greater Noida on Sunday afternoon.

Police said that the the two were killed by four assailants while attending a marriage ceremony the Surajpur area. One of the attackers was also reported to be killed during the exchange of fire. Police have suspected involvement of Sunder Bhati gang in the incident and have registered a case against unidentified persons. Police have yet not identified the criminals as one of them died on the spot.

According to police, the incident was reported around 2 pm in Niyana village when the ruling party leader and Village Head of Dadupura, Harendra Naagar had gone to attend marriage ceremony of daughter of Prakahs Naagar, village head of Niyana. When Harendra (38) and his gunner, Bhudev Sharma, were coming out from the marriage hall, one of the assailants fired bullets at him from close distance. Noticing attack on the village head, Bhudev also fired bullets in retaliation and suddenly few others jumped in to the firing. The victims, who suffered multiple injuries, along with an injured assailant were admitted at ICU of Kailash Hospital where the three-village head, gunner and the attacker succumbed to their injuries while condition of others was reported stable.

As the incident caused panic in the village, police tightened the security. Senior police officials rushed the village assuring them to arrest the criminals. “We have registered a case and are investigating the matter. We suspect the hand of Sunder Bhati gang in the killings as the village head was witness against the gang members in some cases but we are investigating the matter from other angles too. ,” said a senior police official.
