SP announces 55 candidates for 2014

Gearing up for the Lok Sabha polls, ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh announced 55 candidates for the 2014 elections giving ticket to 18 sitting members on Friday.

SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav from Mainpuri, his daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav from Kannauj, nephews Dharmendra Yadav from Badaun and maiden political entry of Akshay Yadav (son of Ram Gopal Yadav) from Ferozabad were among the state’s first family who got tickets in the first list.

UP assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey from Doomariaganj and minister in the Akhilesh Yadav government  Surendra Singh Patel from Varanasi were also in the list.

The first candidates’ list was released by party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav here. SP’s list comes just a day after the Congress constituted its committee for the Lok Sabha elections.

Akhilesh said that the party was discussing the names of the candidates for the remaining 25 seats in the state which also includes some of the sitting members.

The SP leader also clarified that the party was yet to decide on the candidates name in Rae Bareli and  Amethi, strongholds of the Gandhi family. Earlier, Mulayam Singh Yadav had announced the party would not field any candidate from Rae Bareli and Amethi.

Ram Gopal Yadav said the announcement came early to enable the leaders to start their campaign at the earliest.
