The South MCD has decided to extend nursery section in all its 588 primary schools. A resolution to the effect was passed by the education committee on Wednesday.
‘After a survey of municipal primary schools and prolonged interaction with principals, teachers and students, I realised that the students who start their learning at nursery level are better than those who are directly enrolled in Class I,’ said Satish Upadhayay, chairman of education committee in South MCD. The education department has 588 municipal primary school and 10 aided schools and 14 nursery schools in its area. Among these 171 are boys’ schools and 169 are girls. The rest are coeducational.
‘Our 315 primary schools have nursery section which would be extended to all the municipal schools in the next academic session,’ said Upadhayay. He further informed that as per the guidelines of Right To Education (RTE), the government schools can’t enroll kids less than four years old so the system of preparatory, KG-1 and KG-2 could not be followed in MCD schools.
He also announced that a seminar would be conducted on the topic ‘Reinforcement of the Primary duties of teachers towards Eduction’ to boost the morale of teachers so that the could give their best to the students. Upadhayay has also planned regular interaction with principals and teachers to get the right feed back to improve the education system.
