South MCD offers job to slain dentist’s wife

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Sunday offered a job to Dr Shelly Narang, wife of Dr Pankaj Narang who was lynched by an angry mob last Wednesday, in a hospital run by the civic body.

Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled SDMC met Dr Narang’s family on Saturday. Delhi BJP president  Satish Upadhyay and an SDMC councillor announced about the job offer made to Dr Shelly Narang in a press meet on Sunday. Upadhyay said RWA office-bearers of the area, where the Narangs live, highlighted three problems before the delegation during its visit to the slain dentist’s house. Upadhayay said he had already apprised the Police Commissioner, Mayor and SDMC Commissioner about the problems being faced by residents in the area.

Upadhyay said the police chief had assured that a police picket would be set up in the colony at the earliest. The SDMC has assured the RWA of all help in putting up gates and installing CCTV cameras in the area to ensure the safety of residents.

Meanwhile, a delegation of party leaders, led by Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Dr Vijender Gupta, met Lieutenant Governor (LG) Najeeb Jung on Sunday and urged him to constitute a special court for the speedy trial of the accused in the case.

Gupta also sought compensation for the victim’s family. Demanding security for Dr Narang’s family, Gupta called for a fast-track court to hear the case.

“Police patrolling should be ensured from 7 pm to 6 am. Suspicious persons should be checked. The area DCP should be held responsible if a crime occurs in an area under his jurisdiction. The local police station should keep a character record of every citizen living in an area,” Gupta said.
