Leader of Opposition in South Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Farhad Suri, has alleged that outdoor advertisement contractors, in connivance with officers and politicians, have siphoned off lakhs of rupees by changing the sites of unipoles allocated to them.
‘Such large scale irregularities could not be committed without connivance of officers and leaders of the corporation,’ said Suri demanding, a fair enquiry into the matter.
Suri also showed a list of 13 sites of unipoles in the area. ‘The corporation must fix latitude and longitude of its unipoles to get more revenue and make the system corruption free,’ added Suri.
He said he had submitted photographs of over 28 unipole sites to the advertisement department, and after proper enquiry, 13 sites were found shifted from their allocated space. The corporation has over 150 unipoles in its area.
But the officers of the department blamed the flawed process of allotment. ‘We roughly allocate the site of unipoles. For instance, a unipole site is opposite Lotus temple and another is in Central Market, Lajpat Nagar. Now its on the convenience of contractor to put his advertisement on the basis of maximum visibility,’ said a senior officer of the corporation.
‘Yes, there is major violation in over half a dozen cases and action is being taken against them,’ he added.
