South DMC order inquiry into illegal construction in Sainik Farm area

South DMC on Thursday ordered a vigilance inquiry into alleged connivance of corporation officers regarding illegal constructions at farm houses in the Sainik Farms area.

‘It may be current officers or their predecessors, who allowed the construction in connivance with police personnel of the area. We have ordered a vigilance inquiry into the matter and take further action,’ said Rajesh Gehlot, outgoing chairperson of the standing committee of South DMC.

‘The commissioner has been directed to present the report within two months,’ added Gehlot. The members of the standing committee expressed their reservations over  illegal constructions in the farm houses of the area and asked the commissioner to ensure strict implementation of building rules.

‘We have also written letter to Delhi police to deploy police personnel to prevent illegal construction by keeping tabs on transportation of construction material inside the farm houses,’ said Vijay Bidhuri, deputy commissioner of South Zone.

‘We have already demolished some illegal constructions in the area,’ he added. Bidhuri also gave a list of 25 farm houses in Sainik Farm area where illegal constructions were demolished.

 ‘As per the order of the Delhi High Court, it is the joint responsibility of MCD and Delhi police to prevent illegal construction in the area. We have sought police assistance in the matter,’ he added. According to sources, Delhi police is taking action against some police personnel after receiving complaints from the MCD.
