The menace of ‘ghost’ employees is back to haunt MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi). In a shocking revelation, it has come to light that as many as nine ghost employees of SDMC (South Delhi Municipal Corporation) have been drawing monthly salary.
The fake employees belong to the sanitation department of SDMC. The issue came to light after Vigilance Commission on the insistence of Subhash Arya, leader of house in SDMC, examined the details of 55 sanitation workers of Milap Nagar (ward no 119).
During the investigation it was found that two people were drawing salaries on one employee ID. One such case is that of employee ID – 72178108, on which two women named Geeta and Seema have been getting salaries.
Not just that, it was also revealed that the attendance records have also been tampered with by an ‘insider’. For example, in the attendance records of one particular date, it is mentioned that over 10 employees had punched in at ‘6:38:32’. ‘In a biometric machine, how is it possible to punch in at exactly the same time? This is definitely an insider’s job. Who else can have information to such confidential information,’ said Arya.
It is also to be noted that the civic officials responsible for clearing salaries of sanitation workers had completely ignored the glaring errors in the records.
Arya has informed the police about the issue and also demanded an internal probe into the matter. ‘This is not a one-man job. The culprits need to be brought to book,’ he added.
The number of ghost employees would easily be in thousands as this investigation has only been conducted on one section of employees of a particular municipal ward. A senior civic official also informed that this happens in all municipal corporations.
