South district gears up for Assembly election

As assembly polls are round the corner, the District Election Office (South) has organised a variety of programmes, in different areas of the district under SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) initiative. A puppet show was organised at Qutub Minar complex. Colourful puppets caught the attention of a large number of people. Trained puppeteers attracted the crowd and began the display through a storyline that exhorted people to vote.

The District Election Officer (DEO) of South, Niharika Rai, welcomed the guests and appealed them to exercise their franchise on February 7. The CEO of Delhi, Chandra Bhushan Kumar, also administered a pledge to all that they would exercise their right to vote to uphold the democratic credentials of the country.

Apart from this, the South district has lodged 34 FIRs under Excise Act and seized 14,306 quarters, of which 10,574 are country liquor and 3,732 are foreign (IMFL) liquor and 31 people have been arrested under Excise Act in this regard.

In addition, the South district police have also seized five country-made pistols and 14 live cartridges and SST has seized one .32 bore revolver. As many as 24 teams each of Static Surveillance Teams and Flying Squads Teams have been deployed by the District Election Officer (South) to monitor and maintain law and order situation 24x7 and observe any violation of Model Code of Conduct in context of the election in the national Capital.
