South Delhi Municipal Corporation’s (SDMC) first ever Janta Darbar (public meet) which was organised at Hari Nagar proved to be a hit, as citizens across the region thronged there for redressal of their grievances and complaints. There were even people from the localities coming under the other civic bodies. Even from SDMC the citizens coming from Najafgarh, Chawala, Lodi Road, Badarpur, Lajpat Nagar, Hari Nagar, Janak Puri and Subhash Nagar were standing in long queues to have an audience with the Mayor Shyam Sharma.
The Mayor, while interacting with the citizens stated that this Janta Darbar is in fact an effort to bring the entire municipal administration at the doorsteps of the citizens with an aim to remove the distance between the administration and people. He announced that more such Janta Darbars will be organised which will help the SDMC in getting the feedback from the citizens. He further expressed hope that the other civic bodies will also follow this result oriented step to make the municipal administration more public oriented.
He added that a number of services, including issue of birth/death certificates, building plan sanction, booking of community centers, issue of General Trade License are being provided online. The SDMC is keen to bring more and more services under this IT oriented initiative in order to ensure more transparency and quickness.
The Mayor exhorted the gathering to concentrate on the cleanliness to make the Swachh Bharat Mission launched by the Prime Minister successful. Apart from this, Sharma apprised the citizens about the precautions taken for dengue. He described this as a man made disease; which can be contained with simple precautions. He made it clear that the SDMC is ready to meet the challenge of dengue; despite its likely outbreak may be much more than the last year.
While stressing the need of making SDMC’s localities more green and clean, Sharma exhorted the students to be active partners in green exercises. SDMC is going to launch a Campaign called “One Student – One Plant” in order to involve all primary class students in plantation drives.
