South civic body to regularize sanitation workers

South Delhi Municipal Corporation has declared the regularisation process of sanitation workers in April and also provided them cashless health card for free health facility in municipal hospitals and health centres. ‘The department has almost completed the cadre list and will soon finalise seniority list. All the preparations has been made to start the regularisation process by April,’ said Rajesh Gehlot, chairman of standing committee with South DMC. ‘The workers will also be provided cashless health card and identity card to get benefit of various scheme of the corporation,’ added Gehlot. The announcement to regularise the sanitation workers was made when a delegation of Safai Karamchari Sangh (Sanitation Workers’ Association) met with chairman and and raised the issue. The workers had threatened strike if their rightful demands are not met. The corporation also accepted their demands to recruit sanitation workers on compassionate ground. ‘We are committed to provide housing facilities to sanitation workers and the work will be started as soon as land is received from Delhi Development Authority,’ said Gehlot. According to a senior officers of the corporation thousands of daily wage sanitation workers would be benefited with the scheme and they will also be entitled for arrears. The corporation has also decided to conduct training programme for sanitation workers so that they could be benefited by promotion scheme of the corporation.
