South Delhi Municipal Corporation (South DMC) is soon to get over 50 more surface parking sites. The local civic body has marked the boundaries of these parking sites and a proposal has been sent to the Delhi traffic police for approval.
'The move will curb the powers of the parking mafia in the area who are running an illegal parking racket at most of these places and simultaneously provide parking facility to citizens and revenue to corporations,' said Rajesh Gehlot, chairman of the standing committee in South DMC.
'These parking sites would be equipped with hand-held security devices and CCTV surveillance,' added Gehlot.
As per the proposal sent to the Delhi traffic police, the corporation has identified 22 parking sites in the south Delhi area, 22 in central zone and 10 parking sites in west zone of the South DMC. 'These parking sites will fetch over Rs 14 crore per year to the corporation,' said Sushil Kumar, deputy commissioner, remunerative project (RP) cell of the corporation. 'A survey will also be conducted in the Najafgarh zone to identify the parking sites,' added Kumar.
South DMC has recently, reallocated its 39 parking sites, including two newly-constructed underground parking sites, under its new parking policy which will fetch an additional revenue of Rs 13.68 crore in addition to the last year's collections.
