The leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj named Pankha Road flyover as ‘Vivekanand setu’ and dedicated it on Saturday. The six-lane and over six-km flyover has been constructed by South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
According to Swaraj, this was a tribute to ‘swamiji’ on his 150th birth year. ‘Our young generation will be able to learn about him by these efforts.’ Mayor of South Delhi Savita Gupta said in metros like Delhi there is a need for flyovers to decongest traffic. Pankha Road is one of the important traffic arteries of west Delhi, linking Najafgarh Road and Station Road and to NH-8. She further added that with the construction of the flyover, the smooth flow of traffic coming to and fro from Uttam Nagar, Najafgarh, Janakpuri, Dwarka, Palam and adjoining colonies and going towards Delhi cantonment as well as south Delhi will be ensured.
Chairman, standing committee, Rajesh Gehlot, held that in future also the corporation will name its projects, institutes, parks, roads after martyrs, freedom fighters, so that young generation could follow the objectives, values and ideals of these personalities.
The 6.25 km flyover is 45 m long with six-lane carriageway. The flyover connects Dwarka from Janakpuri and number of other thickly populated unauthorised but regularised colonies such as Sagarpur, Nasirpur, Dabri, Sitapuri, Chanakya place and Uttam Nagar.
