South civic body all set to upgrade community halls

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) intends to give citizens comfort of the air-conditioned community halls. But it comes with a long list of don’ts, including no DJs and loudspeakers outside the community hall, illumination on the trees and hedges, alcoholic drinks and smoking. The corporation has also decided to outsource the management and sanitation services.

‘We are committeed to provide quality service to the citizens. The upgradation to airconditioned  community halls is a significnt step in this direction. There is a good demand for air conditioned community halls,’ said Rajesh Gehlot, Chairman of the Standing Committee in SDMC. ‘In the first phase, three community halls will be upgraded but we are committeed to upgrade all the 90 community halls,’ added Gehlot.

The three community halls have been selected on the basis of their location,  occupancy and availability. These three community halls are situated in Mahavir Vatika in central Delhi, Green Park in south Delhi and Rajouri Garden in west Delhi.

According to the proposal of the community department of SDMC, the rent of these airconditioned community halls will be double the present rate. In addition to electricity, a fixed aircondition charges have to be borne by the clients. Presently, the community halls of the civic body are available in five categories and the rent for A category community halls is Rs 15,000 for 24 hours plus security, sanitation and tent license fee. The security for upgraded community halls is also proposed to raise from Rs 10,000 for A category halls to Rs 15,000.

These upgraded community halls will not come free for anyone except for condolence meetings but they too have to deposit air-condition and sanitation charges.

As per the present norms of the corporation, the community halls can be booked free by its employees, as well as for religious functions and condolence meetings. The upgraded halls are not available for the short duration, i.e. three-hour slot.
