Soon, parking lot overhaul in Noida to ease out traffic mess

Noida’s crowded streets are likely to get less congested with the industrial development department’s latest parking scheme. The Noida Authority is directed to abandon all the contracts for authorised parking lots on roadsides.

The authority is planning to reorganise the parking in the city whose responsibilities will now be given to Delhi Integrated Multi Model Transit System (DIMTS) and Urban Traffic Management Control System (UTMS). Apart from this, the authority is also planning to remove all the advertising unipoles from the city.

The decision was taken in a meeting led by Rama Raman, principal secretary (industries) and chairperson of Noida Authority, who directed officials to immediately issue notices to all the parking contractors in Noida. He also insisted that parking contracts should now be given to DIMTS & UTMS; Delhi-based semi-government agencies who deal in transport projects.

Road side parking lots have become a major cause of traffic congestion on the city roads and commercial areas. Residents have been facing a lot of problems and complaining against the rude and impolite parking attendance, they have been demanding removal of parking lots from roads and public spaces for a long time. This move is aimed to eradicate all intrusions on road sides and footpaths within a month.

According a Noida authority official: “We are directed to cancel all parking lots allowed on the roads which are managed and run by private contractors. Once finalised, a much efficient parking management system will be in action.”

Uttar Pradesh principle secretary, industries and Noida authority chairperson, Rama Raman conducted a survey of the pathetic parking situation in the city. Presently, to park a car in Noida, one has to pay Rs 20 for the first eight hours against the slip issued on the name of the Noida authority.

There are more than 50 parking lots allowed in the Noida authority in residential, industrial and commercial areas. These parking lots are run by the private contractors who are allowed by the authority. They occupy half of the road creating hindrance in smooth flow of traffic. Sometimes, parking of vehicles even lead to disputes.

The authority is also planning to remove all the advertisement unipoles from the city.
