Soon, NDMC will make education smarter through e-learning

In a bid to make classrooms smarter, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is gearing up to make education smarter through e-learning facility. 

The project is being introduced in the upcoming academic session 2016-17 in 30 NDMC schools in 444 classes. The announcement was made consequent upon the selection of the Council in the list of 20 cities under the Smart City Mission of the Ministry of Urban Development. Out of several similar projects under the Smart City proposal, the Council is seeking to provide Smart Educational services through the Smart Classrooms, informed Chairperson, Naresh Kumar on Thursday.

Underlining the details of the project, the Chairman informed that the main aim of the smart education is to introduce e-learning solution in all NDMC schools, mentoring programme, centralised students e-health records and skill development.

“The e-learning solution in all 61 schools from Class VI to XII is to transform traditional classrooms to futuristic technology-enabled smart learning classrooms by introduction of state-of-the-art technology, infrastructure and professionally developed learning content,” he said.

The project would provide the students with high-end computers, interactive white boards, short-throw projectors and other hardware/software stuff. Under the project, the lessons would be taught on the basis of the syllabus of NCERT available in the digital form. 

The study material will be provided in bilingual form in Hindi and English. The contents of information as amended and recommended by the NCERT from time to time would be made available through the dedicated servers, which would be placed in each school.

“For the convenience of the Senior Secondary class students, question banks, practice material, standard lessons, interactive material including flowcharts to unfold contexts in a layered manner, last ten years examination papers etc. will be made available in the digital form. The repository of health record of all students would be maintained electronically for monitoring their health on a regular basis,” said Kumar.

Accordingly, the performance of the teachers would be evaluated on a regular basis in a scientific manner with capacity building programmes for e-learning for maintaining the standard of teaching properly. Technical requirements in this regard have been identified by the NDMC for selection of suitable execution agency.
