The MEA has taken the precautionary move on the recommendations of Ebola Monitoring Committee constituted by health ministry after the outbreak of life-taking disease.
While talking to Millennium Post, Randeep Guleria, a member of monitoring committee, said, ‘As per WHO guidelines, the person, who was tested Ebola-positive, is a cured patient. But, since we don’t have any Ebola case as of now, so taking no risk, the committee recommended MEA to ask Ebola-hit countries to keep cured Indians in that particular country till the patients’ all fluids become Ebola-negative.’ Guleria heads pulmonary medicine department at AIIMS.
Citing available literature on Ebola, Guleria said, ‘There is a small chance of spread of Ebola through sexual contact. So WHO has also issued guidelines to the Ebola-affected countries to ask the cured patients to abstain from sexual activities or use condom.’
Meanwhile, Union Health Minister JP Nadda has said that situation is ‘under complete control’. ‘Due to its extra caution, the health ministry tested body fluids of the man even after his blood tested negative for Ebola. We have similar arrangements at 24 airports across the country,’ Nadda said.
