With the initiation of tender for the proposed underpass on the 30-metre wide Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway last month, decks have been cleared for the much awaited Expressway connecting Faridabad to Ghaziabad via Noida.
The Noida Authority, which is bearing cost of the entire project, has hinted to finalise the contractor for the facility this week. Notably, the project has missed several deadlines since its announcement somewhere in 1994.
According to the report, the Detailed Project Report for the 600-metre long, four-lane underpass has already been readied. The estimate and design of the project has also been vetted by the IIT-Delhi last year. It is proposed to be located on a 30-meter wide Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Road near Bahlolpur village in Noida. A total of Rs 32 crore is estimated to be spent for the construction of the proposed underpass.
According to the authority officials, this is the third time that tenders have been floated for the proposed project. Tenders were initiated in July last year but there was a failure in finalising a contractor. Tenders were called for again in April this year. This time the authority decided to finalise the project even if receives a single bid and to complete the entire work within 18 months period.
The project was announced 23 years back to connect Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad but was stalled by the Haryana Government in the year 1998. As per the initial plan, the corridor was to be 56 km and was to connect NH-24 near Ghaziabad and NH-2 but it was scuttled to 17 km. Around 16 km of the corridor falls under the jurisdiction of Noida Authority.
Once the project is completed, commuters can reach both cities in half an hour without entering the Capital and the busy parts of Noida. The E-way begins at Chhijarsi village near NH-24 and passes through Sectors 142, 143B, 146 and 167, 168 along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway to end at Assdullapur village near Sector 168.
