Soon, Capital will have its own festival

The tourism department of the Delhi government will celebrate Delhi Festival to promote tourism in the city. In his Budget speech, Delhi Finance Minister Manish Sisodia also announced development of a Skywalk from Qutub Minar Metro station to Qutub Minar.

“The Delhi Festival will be a festival that celebrates the spirit of Delhi and inculcates pride in its citizens,” said Sisodia. 

The Delhi Finance minister also proposed to launch a new campaign “Brand Delhi” and redevelop the online presence of destination Delhi through websites, apps, maps, social media micro sites etc.
“Delhi Festival would be a world-class festival and will celebrate our shopping, culture, food, music, languages, theatre and films, among other things,” he added. 

The government has allocated Rs 10 crore for development of tourism infrastructure in the city. The government has also decided beautification of entry points of Delhi for which Rs 100 crore has been earmarked.

The government also announced measures on women security and integrated transport system in the national Capital. 

“The government has made it mandatory for all public transport vehicles, including taxies to install GPS systems for tracking vehicles which will ensure security of women in city and also ensure tourists’ safety,” added Sisodia.

Enumerating women security measures, Sisodia informed that 4,000 marshals have already been deployed in DTC buses for vigilance. 

As part of its measure to strengthen public transport system, the government will procure 1,000 non-AC buses besides adding 1,000 more buses in cluster bus scheme. Sisodia further informed that the government has identified 42,000 darks spots in the city which would be lightened.
