This was decided after the neighbouring city of Greater Noida implemented the move. According to traffic police officials, the move will also help in bringing down the rising graph of crimes committed by auto drivers in the city.
Rajiv Narayan Mishra, Superintendent of Traffic in Noida, said that the enforcement officials conduct drives from time to time to check traffic violations. ‘We have decided to code all the autos in Noida on the sidelines of the Greater Noida model. Traffic violation by auto drivers will come down drastically with the move,’ Mishra said adding that the policy will start rolling out from next month after meeting with concerned stakeholders. The Noida auto union has also welcomed the move. In Greater Noida, Active Citizen’s Team, a group of social activists in the city, has coded all the 2,300 autos themselves. This is supported by a mobile application based on autos bearing unique numbers.
Interestingly, these autos have also been linked with a mobile application. So, in case of a misbehaviour by any auto driver, the passenger can file his complaint on through the application by filing in the unique code.
The application will flash all the details about the auto which can further be forwarded to the police station.
Sardar Manjit Singh, a member of Active Citizens’ Team said that the coding of autos have decreased violations and other crimes by auto drivers. ‘The auto drivers have become cautions and this has also curbed the crime in the city,’ Singh added.
