Sonia Gandhi discharged from hospital, advised rest

After 11 days, Congress president Sonia Gandhi was discharged from Delhi’s Ganga Ram Hospital on Sunday morning. She was admitted to the hospital on August 3. She underwent treatment for fever, dehydration and shoulder injury, following a massive roadshow in Varanasi.
“Mrs Sonia Gandhi's medical condition at the time of discharge from the hospital is stable. She has been advised rest and continuation of medicines,” said Dr DS Rana, Chairman, Board of Management, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
The 69-year-old was on a day-long visit to Varanasi on August 3 to carry out a roadshow and visit famous Kashi Vishwnath Temple as part of Congress’ UP election campaign. She had to cut short her visit after her health deteriorated. She had fractured her left shoulder during the roadshow and later underwent surgery in Delhi hospital on August 3.
After landing in Delhi from Varanasi around midnight of August 2, Gandhi was rushed to Army Research and Referral hospital. However, she was shifted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on August 3.
Hours after she got discharged from the hospital, Congress President issued a statement too on the eve of the 70th anniversary of Independence.
Reiterating that the Independence came with tremendous sacrifices made by our founding fathers, Gandhi in her statement said, “Each Indian citizen, as indeed the Congress worker was a freedom fighter and as inheritors of this great legacy today, we must rise to fulfill the responsibility of preserving and fighting for the values that this rich legacy bequeathed us with.'
It will be Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who will be hoisting flag on the occasion of Independence Day at Aicc headquarters on Monday, as Congress chief is advised rest by the doctors.
